Climate Control Systems
Frida is equipped with multiple climate control systems to keep you comfortable in various weather conditions. Understanding how to use these systems efficiently will keep you comfortable while maximizing energy efficiency.
Available Climate Systems
Rooftop A/C
- 13,500 BTU air conditioner
- Cools the entire RV
- Requires 30 amp service or generator
- Cannot run on battery power alone
Propane Furnace
- 30,000 BTU propane furnace
- Heats the entire RV
- Uses battery power for fan
- Thermostat controlled
Electric Space Heater
- 1500-watt portable heater
- Good for mild temperature drops
- Requires shore power
- Energy-efficient option when available
Roof Vents & Fans
- Powered roof vent
- Creates natural airflow
- Battery-powered operation
- Perfect for mild weather
Using the Air Conditioner
- Power requirements: The A/C requires either shore power (campground electricity) or the generator to run. It won't run on battery power alone.
- Thermostat control: Set your desired temperature on the thermostat control panel.
- Fan speed: Select your preferred fan speed (low, medium, or high).
- Vents: Adjust the ceiling vents to direct air where needed.
ENERGY TIP
When using the A/C, close all windows and doors. Keep blinds closed on sunny windows to reduce heat gain. For maximum efficiency, set the temperature to 72-75°F rather than a much colder setting.
Using the Propane Furnace
- Propane check: Ensure propane is turned on at the tanks.
- Battery check: The furnace fan requires battery power, so ensure your batteries are charged.
- Thermostat control: Set the thermostat to HEAT mode.
- Temperature setting: Select your desired temperature.
- Startup wait: The furnace may take 15-30 seconds to ignite after being turned on.
SAFETY WARNING
Never block furnace vents (inside or outside). Keep the area around vents clear of belongings. The furnace produces carbon monoxide, so a working CO detector is essential when using the furnace.

Using the Propane Stove
- Propane check: Ensure propane is turned on at the tanks outside the RV.
- Ventilation: Always use the range hood fan when cooking to remove odors, moisture, and combustion gases.
- Lighting the burner:
- Push in the control knob for the desired burner and turn it to the "LITE" position.
- While holding the knob in, use a lighter or match to ignite the burner.
- Once lit, continue holding the knob in for 5 seconds, then release.
- Adjust the flame to desired level.
- Turning off: Turn the knob to the "OFF" position when finished.
SAFETY WARNING
Never leave the stove unattended while in use. Keep flammable materials (paper towels, dish cloths, etc.) away from burners. Always turn off propane at the source when not in use for extended periods.
Using the Refrigerator
- Power source: The refrigerator runs on the RV's 12V battery system.
- Temperature control: Set the temperature using the thermostat dial (1-5, with 5 being the coldest).
- Level requirement: The refrigerator needs to be reasonably level to operate efficiently.
- Pre-cooling: Turn on the refrigerator several hours before loading it with food.
EFFICIENCY TIP
For maximum efficiency, pre-cool food and beverages before placing them in the RV refrigerator. Always allow hot food to cool before refrigerating. Organize items to allow for air circulation.
